| 2025-26 Regular Season Spirit vs. Sarnia Sting |
The Saginaw Spirit are in their 23rd season of operation in Saginaw, Michigan. The franchise actually dates back decades, tracing it's origin all the way back to 1943 as the St. Catherines Falcons of the OHA. Prior to arriving in Saginaw in 2002, the team was the North Bay Centennials from 1982-2002. The Spirit are the fifth hockey team to call Dow Event Center's Wendler Arena home, and by far the longest-lasting. Auto dealer Dick Garber is majority owner of the Spirit, with partners Chris Osgood and Brandon Bordeaux. Craig Goslin is team president and Jimmy Devellano is advisor.
As of January 26, 2026, the Spirit are in fourth place in the Western Division, sporting a 17-22-3-4 record. Their 41 points are 25 back of first place Flint and Windsor. Attendance is strong, as the Spirit average 3,624 per game so far this year. Head Coach Chris Lazary and GM Dave Drinkell are back in their respective positions.
I will do a full write-up on the season once it's over. As for the program, it's 47 pages long and all in color. It includes player bios, full page pictures of game action, and is loaded with statistics and advertisements. The season preview is on page 28, while player bios are on pages 20, 22, 24 and 25. Future Watches is an article on page 31 that details talented young players that could make an impact on the Spirit in the next few seasons. The long list of season ticket holders is on page 39--a far cry from the dark days of the Lumber Kings.
Local advertisements include Saginaw Valley State University, Harvey's Grill and Bar, WNEM TV 5 (CBS affiliate in the area), Trackside Bar and Grill, Garber Chevrolet and Meijer.
